What is a School Psychologist? School Psychologists work collaboratively with the entire school learning community to help students achieve their full potential. They emphasize prevention and early detection of mental health and academic problems, and help develop academic and behavioral interventions for students. School psychologists work to study and understand the cognitive processes children use to learn successfully and to understand and address the social and emotional behaviors of young people in the school environment. For more information on the role of the school psychologist, see House Joint Resolution No. 903, Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 23, 2009, Agreed to by the Senate, February 25, 2009 under uploaded files.
